I recently had the pleasure of consuming some non-locally produced cannabis. I say pleasure, not because the cannabis was good, but rather because it was not.  It was a pleasure because the experience reinvigorated my excitement for Utah cannabis. A little Sundae Driver was all it took to cleanse my palate and get back on the straight and narrow Utah path.

Sundae Driver is a new but (becoming) well-known strain and this harvest, grown by Robert Allen and Dragonfly Wellness, is another example of the high-quality cannabis that is becoming more readily available to Utah patients. It comes packaged in a nice, transparent glass jar, giving you a view of what you are purchasing.  What you may notice while jar-gazing is the constellations of cannabinoids.

Earning high marks in quality, appearance, and flavor; the 8th I sampled was totally clean.  I didn’t notice much, if any, crumb at the bottom of the jar.  Over the few weeks I had Sundae Driver in stock, I kept it in the original jar and it maintained nicely. Maybe this was because the bud was so dense and sticky upon purchase?

I found this bud maintained volume when ground; meaning it wasn’t expansive once ground up but it stayed in nice, dense flakes. When heat was applied, it didn’t produce any unwanted tastes or flavors. Rather, it produced a pleasant inhale and an exhale that contained chocolate notes that are implied by the Sundae Driver name.

Speaking of the name Sundae Driver, I want so badly to smell the Sundae notes. Not that anyone claims they exist, but alas, I found a sweet weed-dank (the Sundae??) when the bud was full, and when ground I found that a more savory note came out. The chocolate flavor on the exhale was the most definitely Sundae aspect that I was able to uncover.   Because of that chocolate note, I really appreciated the exhale taste and the ensuing aftertaste of this strain.

In yet another strain-name-epiphany-moment, the namesake became apparent when I inspected a bit of ground bud. There were a nice rainbow of trichome sprinkles amid a cloud of purple, orange, and green.  Because this herb is so rich in cannabinoids, if I had an ice cream scoop handy, I could have scooped it and it would have held.

I also appreciated the functionality of this strain. I found that the effects of a low-to-normal dose would last for approximately 1.5 hours. I was able to use this strain successfully during the mornings as it left me feeling balanced and together; both during and after use. I didn’t find any drag after a normal dose; however, a higher dose did produce some drag. It is worth mentioning that this drag is easily warded off with a power nap or some power coffee.

Sundae Driver is labeled as a hybrid. Personally, I would add Sativa Leaning to that description. The beginning of the affects manifest in an encompassing uplift of positivity. I found creativity was stimulated in waves; dishes were more enjoyable to do, chattiness increased, and jovial conversation ensued. I felt physically relaxed as well. Upon feeling these effects, I realized that this smooth push of positivity was how this strain got its Driver moniker..

The nice mellow, yet uplifting, effects of this strain make it one I think could be suitable to new consumers. This coupled with the fact that a small dose goes a long way, makes this a versatile strain.  Not being a new consumer myself, I have no proof of this; however, I would hypothesize that a new consumer would have as lovely a time consuming this strain as an experienced consumer. Go ahead and test this out folks, let me know what you learn.
