Salt Baked City had the luxury of visiting Zion Cultivars indoor grow located in Salt Lake City.  If you don’t know, they’re one of eight companies that were selected by the Utah Department of Agriculture last year to grow medical cannabis in the state.

Heading Zion’s team is Shawn Hammond, Lead Grower, and Blake Smith, Chief Science Officer. The duo have hand selected a team of local growers who have been popping seeds since January of this year.

If you’re a Utah medical cannabis patient, you’ve probably seen their flower ‘Maxine’ or ‘Pink Starburst Petrol’ in your local cannabis pharmacy. They have more genetics up their sleeve coming your way soon.  Take a look inside of their temporary grow. They’re almost finished with their new facility in Payson, and expecting to move operations their next month – where production will increase dramatically.

Since licenses for growers, processors, and pharmacies were awarded during the summer of 2019, those selected were not able to start operations until the beginning of 2020. Some still haven’t.

This has caused only three of 14 pharmacies to open their doors, and five of eight growers planting seeds in the state – leaving products scarce for the 2,819 registered patients the Utah Department of Health reported this month.

Stay tuned for more updates from Zion Cultivars and others participating in Utah’s medical cannabis program as things progress. We’re currently 120 days with legal medical cannabis in the state.
