Searching ‘Purple Punch’ in the music app Pandora yields 21 song results. After browsing through the results, listening to some, reading lyrics and observing album art, it was obvious that most of the songs were indeed inspired by the Purple Punch cannabis strain. Spoiler alert: none of the songs sampled were particularly good. What does this have to do with a strain review? Not much, but it’s interesting information you can use to impress your friends and flummox your opponents.
On the top of impressive, one of the most noticeable features of these Purple Punch popcorn-buds by Tryke is the shear volume of trichome on and within the flower. I first noticed this when, after a couple turns of my grinder, the grinding chamber was a trichome sandbox. The ground buds in the grinds chamber below were still nice and coated as well.
The number of little popcorn-buds in the 8th jar I sampled was 40. Lots of little laughing grass. However, readers should note that what is considered as popcorn-buds can certainly vary; some of the other popcorn jars I sampled had larger and thus fewer buds. These little poppers are convenient when loading up your grinder and the shear number of them in the jar is oddly pleasing.
Purple is certainly present in this popcorn. Deep purple calyx are present in an almost even ratio with lime green. The contrast of the lime green and the deep purple almost masks the cannabinoids coating the surface. This art show continues when you grind the buds, culminating in a visually pleasing pot palette of lavender, lime green, purple, copper and sandy trichome.
The scent profile is equally pleasing. Fruity blueberry holds the main stage with OG funk and lite hops serving as backup aromas. As heat is applied the inhale is smooth and consistent. The fruity blueberry aftertaste can also be noticed in the back of your throat after exhale.
On first feel, a little time bump occurs. Then, what will become a deep body float, begins to set in. A slight tingle in the extremities and you are off. Expansive positivity settles in and stresses disappear. A medium-spacey mind carries you through the next hour or so and gradually lets you down.
This review wouldn’t be complete if the price of this product was left out. At $32.00 an 8th, it is one of the lowest priced offerings available to Utah patients. The low price being connected to the popcorn-bud designation. It should be noted that the potency of these buds, despite the popcorn classification they are given, is still on par with many of the top shelf flower strains available today. For anyone who wants to save a dime, these are a perfect option.
