A feeling of lightness begins in the back of your neck and travels, escalating up the spine until illuminating the mind. The Sativa power comes out swinging, with knockout punches as your mind is suddenly transformed into a ping pong machine made of blow-up bouncy slides (RIP Some Dudes Playground, real Small Lake Valley people know..). Ideas fill your mind, in reality they are menial, yet, to you they are profound. Why? You know why. Because, as they say, “completely high when you did this, on a Sativa, a cerebral mental high” ala Shape Shifter (by Boogie T).

So far, patients in Utah have had a limited selection when it comes to Sativa dominant flower. There have only been a couple of strains available and, because of the limited availability, it does seem that they always sell out quickly. One of the Sativa strains that has been on the market, and has the habit of disappearing off the shelves, is Orange Zkittles from Tryke.

The jar gazing was certainly impressive when I first peaked in on my stash purchased at WholesomeCo Cannabis in Bountiful: a couple Venus buds being held in the gravitational pull of a single Saturn nug. The large nug I would estimate at about 2.5 grams, not bad for an 8th jar! No comets, meteors, or cosmic dust to be found.

Before you get the wrong impression, size was not the only impressive part of this bud. The buds carried a dense forest of muted orange pistils on top of dark green flower. The visual inspiration for the Orange title was not was not hard to find. As one would expect at 26% THCA, the trichomes were abundant. The bud appeared to have been handled well, no obvious screen rubbing, sugar leaf stragglers, or avoidable stems.

Fruity Linalool greeted my nose when the jar was first opened, with a pleasant fruity orange. A little Myrcene came after, as fruity orange turned to herbal musk. Grinding the buds enhanced the fruity aromas. The grinds were fluffy and light. No crispy dry buds to be found here, only springy, pliable flower

Not all of my experiences with Orange Zkittles from Tryke were pleasant. This was not necessarily any fault of the medicine, but rather my application of it. Upon first purchase, I was really excited to try some. This was the first Sativa I had reviewed in a while and, let’s just say, I wasn’t quite ready for the ensuing.. mental excitedness.

While on my evening stroll, post consumption, the night was just setting in. I walked along the dirt road, occasional cabins on either side. None with occupants; as normal. Slight noise in the bushes. A couple birds popped out from the undergrowth. I was able to recover unscathed; however, the never-present but always-possible predator paranoia thoughts entered. The walk ended quickly.

I had another experience where I had an incredible burn-out post consumption. I had medicated in the morning and was completely drained about two hours later, despite needing to continue with the normal day’s schedule. I think this was more due to me, again, not dosing correctly for the coming activities. My advice would be to start around medium use if you’re not a normal Sativa consumer.
