If I was to use a single word to describe Karat Cake, it would be mellow.  Its Nose has a funky-sweet floral kiss, which is followed by a mild, but heady, body melt.  The bud’s color is pale sage with highlights of what I could only call purple cabbage, which wasn’t a bad thing. If mellow is your station, Karat Cake is your ticket to the train.

Coming in at 19% THC, this flower is on par with most strains currently available at local pharmacies. Its low concentration of CBD makes the THC a bit more obvious.  I found this love child of Wedding Cake and Gelato was nicely on the stoney-side because it made me feel gravitationally uplifted, and at the same time, also quite ready for a deep listen to Mulberry Jam by Allah-Las.

Where did my Karat Cake jar land in my weed stack?

I found that it worked best when I spread it out over a couple of days.  By holding-off on daily use, and mixing it up between uses, I was able to get the most out of this strain.  It seemed to lose its impact quickly when used daily.

You might ask why I put so much emphasis on the point I made in the paragraph above.  Here’s why, for the first 2.5 grams, I realized that I didn’t really care for Karat Cake all that much. Sure, it was mellow enough, but at that point, I didn’t think it was exceptional. However, after taking a break, I revisited this strain only to find myself in a new world.  Then, after a few more days off, I came back a second time and found a wonderful experience that provided all the medication I needed

Back to the buds. There were 4 nicely-sized nugs, and a couple of baby buds at the bottom of my jar.  They were dense, and a little crisp on the exterior. I found ample moisture was released when it was ground.  My thinking is, I wouldn’t store Karat Cake for long in anything but an airtight container. After a week in its original jar, mine became a little delicate.  Given its thick trichrust (Trichome crust), this wasn’t a big surprise.

Ground-up, Karat Cake regains a bit of its original fluff, so it packs tight. Its smooth burn goes as quickly as you want it to. As I was unable to glean much from a handheld herb vape with this strain, my preferred method of consumption was a plasma vaporizer. And, just so you know, it rolls great.

Not sure when I’ll buy this strain from Tryke next, but I will tell you this. I’d probably stash a bit in the background. This is a good strain among many great ones coming out right now in Utah. So, who knows, next week when I dig out that last little nug, I could easily change my mind.
