Let’s begin with the fun stuff: how does Pink Starburst Petrol feel when applied, and how might it help me? Application of this herb had more of an Indica effect on the cannabis spectrum. This strain helped me with my nausea, stress relief, and generally made it easier for me to unwind.
Its effect began as a short, yet heady, stimulation that was very invigorating.
Approximately a quarter-hour later, this stimulation gave way to a powerful body buzz that pulsated up my scalp, and then washed down to my heals. At various times, I may have found myself bouncing a little jig after consuming this medicine: a true sign of its ability to release tension. I found this strain hit hardest at first use, while subsequent uses were less effective.
After taking a few day’s break from this strain, I loaded a normal amount of Pink Stardust Petrol flower, and was halfway through it when I came to realize that I had been staring out at the river from my deck for quite some time; which means that it did its stress-reducing job nicely.
As this strain’s name aptly describes, Pink Starburst Petrol packs a punch. It also produces a proud aroma that smells something like pink candy starburst. Pink Starburst Petrol straddles the terpene line somewhere between gas and a sugary floral. Officially, I’m not sure which terpenes are responsible for this because, as yet, the state does not currently test for terpene profiles.
This doesn’t stop me from making an educated guess. The petrol nose could come from a combination of Myrcene, Humulene and Linalool, and its sweet floral may be due to the presence of Geraniol; or, it could be something else entirely. Either way, I feel this strain may come from the Sunset Sherbert line.
This brings me to a sidebar: right now, all most people are doing is making guesses at what terpenes are present based on smell. And then, most of us probably then look at terpene charts based on the interpretation of what others have smelled. This is why it would be wonderful to see a strain’s terpene profile listed somewhere. It would also be helpful in better understanding which terpenes are in a strain, and in what amounts, and ratios.
Armed with this information, a patient could then make more informed medicinal choices. My understanding is that this is in the works via state testing. For the moment, local producers are not allowed to put such information on packaging. But, I digress- back to the buds.
An interesting phenomenon I noticed about the Pink Starburst Petrol strain is that these buds have the sweetest floral aroma when the jar is freshly opened. As the number of buds decreased, the floral aroma was replaced with a distinct petrol note that grew in strength.
All of this made me think about the evaporation rate of the terpenes. Would the floral Geraniol molecule disperse more quickly than the gassy terpene combo? There are so many interesting things to learn.
Another discovery in my Pink Starburst Petrol venture was how sticky and dank these buds were. These buds are definitely what is referred to by some as, a squisher, which means they stay juicy when ground-up. Case in point, I experienced several instances where my devices became a little resin-clogged. You know, for me, this wasn’t really a problem. If we lived in a state where open combustion was allowed, I’d recommend rolling a nice slow-burner with this strain. But, alas.
These nugs have a strong structural integrity, holding both good moisture and consistency over time. I kept them stored in the jar they came in until the last bit was used up some 22 days after I bought them. This is a testament to the jar that Zion Cultivars is using. It helped the buds survive the variable temperatures of my woodshed. Why keep these lovely buds in the woodshed? Because when I walked in the door with said buds, my wife took one whiff and pointed to the door. Of course, I happily complied.
Continuing on the subject of bud quality, this batch of Pink Starburst Petrol was sold as a discounted product because some of the harvested product contained seeds, or herm effects. A few individuals I spoke with found seeds. Turns out, I found one also, and I’m definitely keeping it. Other than the one seed, my 7 grams were clean.
Props to the folks at Zion Cultivars, for truly owning the product they sell, and for being honest with consumers about what they were selling. Knowing the Zion grow team, I’m confident they’ll work out the kinks, and the next batch will be even better.
Although I admit being eager to sample other Zion Cultivars strains, I can easily see myself buying another jar of Pink Starburst Petrol in the near future. Keeping a jar of this around for evening conversations with friends sounds like a nice idea to me. I’ll keep some Pink Starburst Petrol around as a treat bud. It’s great for when my symptoms are particularly bad. It’s also a superb strain I can enjoy whenever I like.
