Given the full-body lift I’m experiencing, this is going to be another great cannabis strain review. Welcome friends, and enjoy. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this lusciously clean African varietal, meet Durban Poison from the good people at Standard Wellness.
After making a run to Beehive’s Own Farmacy, one of Salt Lake City’s newest pharmacies, I decided to look at general effectiveness, aroma, bud density, and terpene content.
General Effectiveness
According to Leafly, this kick-ass citrusy strain originates in the region of Durban on the South African coast.. No dry mouth or couch-lock for me. Quite the opposite, I was positively elevated in the best possible ways. By all accounts, it seems to be a very popular strain for good reason. After a brief sampling before beginning my work day, I couldn’t agree more.
It did wonders for dispelling morning funk if you know what I mean. And, it was a marvelous complement to my morning cuppa Joe, leaving me focused, uplifted, and relaxed. In short, Durban Poison offers an excellent path to a productive day. How’s that for effectiveness?
Aroma
What can I say friends, Durban Poison smells wonderful. Though it hasn’t got that peculiar skunk smell we all know and love, I’d describe its scent in terms of sweet, tangy notes. By the way, unless you’ve got really crap neighbors, I’d say it won’t be a disappointment should you find your workspace suddenly filled with Durban’s very special kind of pungency.
In fact, I’d also guess you’ll have another draw just to be sure. I did, and so, I was. Bottom l line, Durban Poison couldn’t smell greener. Thanks, Standard Wellness.
Bud Density
As some of you very smart cannabis consumers may already know, and for those of you keen to know more, when it comes to bud density, genetics play a huge role. A little research tells me Indica-dominant strains of cannabis flower such as Durban Poison are generally known to produce tighter buds.
You will find these Durban buds both firmly compact, and quite yummy. What an exceptional day so far, top-notch quality flower, lovely smell, densely compressed buds, and now, on to terpenes.
Terpenes
Finally, a brief word about the terpenes you’ll find in this fabulous strain of Standard Wellness Durban Poison flower. And, why are we concerned about terpenes?
I’m simply fascinated by their potential, and secondly, because what I’ve learned so far strongly suggests that terpenes are largely responsible for providing the wide range of beneficial effects so many enjoy.
The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) informs us that among the natural products that provide medical benefits for an organism, terpenes play a major and variety of roles. The common plant sources of terpenes are tea, thyme, cannabis, Spanish sage, and citrus fruits (e.g., lemon, orange, mandarin).
You’ll also find terpinolene is available, an herbal, floral terp found in garlic, lilac, apples, and nutmeg, which has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for treating everything from headaches to food poisoning and ulcers.
Included in this flavorful terpene variety pack there’s myrcene, too, the most common cannabis terpene, known for its earthy scent. Myrcene is equally unique for its antifungal and antibacterial benefits.
Ocimene is also present, it’s a sweet, floral terpene widely used in perfumes.
