From March to the end of October, Utah’s medical cannabis pharmacies reported more than $14 million in sales.
That’s according to a new report by the Utah Department of Health released last week. The group is responsible for representing medical cannabis pharmacies and their patients in the state. In October alone, Utah pharmacies reported $3.3 million in sales – a 13% increase over the previous month.
October is the last month that data is available for the state.
To date, only seven of the state’s 14 licensed pharmacies have opened their doors to patients, leaving Southern Utah out of the equation. The remaining pharmacies are scheduled to open before the end of the first-quarter in 2021, according to the UDOH.
As of December, the UDOH was reporting over 16,000 active medical cannabis cards and 559 qualified medical providers participating in the state’s new medical cannabis program.
Utah voters legalized medical cannabis in 2018. The state adds a $3 tax to every sale, which is used to pay the expenses for the state’s role in the program.
Unlike our neighbors Nevada, Colorado, and Arizona – adult-use is still prohibited in our state.
