If you had to pick out the most recognizable brand in cannabis culture, who would it be? If the refrigerator blue Cookies logo isn’t the first thing that popped into your mind – you haven’t been paying attention to cannabis culture the past 10 years.
Although Utah has strict advertising laws, and only issued a limited amount of medical cannabis licenses in the state, Bijan Sakaki, part-owner of Beehive Farmacy, was able to get regulatory approval from the Utah Department of Health (UDOH) to launch the famous brand in the Behave State.
The Beehive grow team started popping Medellin, Cheetah Piss, and Rose Apple seeds at the beginning of 2021 as soon as approval came through. The team also confirmed more famous Cookie strains are on the way later this year once production picks up.
Starting in July, patients will be able to pick up the first Utah Cookies harvests in refrigerator blue bags at Beehive Farmacy in Salt Lake City. The Brigham City location will be getting inventory a month or so later.
According to Sakaki, Cookie eighths will cost $65 – but patients should keep an eye for specials found on the pharmacy website.
Cookies was founded 10 years ago in 2012 by Berner, a Bay Area rapper and entrepreneur, and his partner Jigga, fellow Bay Area grower and cannabis breeder. While taking advantage of the combination of new genetics, the internet, music and being one of the first cannabis companies to establish an identity and clothing company based on the brand, fueled the duo to reach a Cheech and Chong like status.
With artists like Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa backing Cookies, and social media and Youtube documenting the growth of the brand and its famous breeding projects, the community was able to take that ride with these legends which built a grassroots cult following almost as big as another San Francisco following – Deadheads.
Now it’s Utah’s turn to get on board. We just might not get Utah Cookies hoodies until the state loosens advertising rules and regulations. Look out for the strains below.
Cheetah Piss
One of the most sought after strains out of Cookies, Cheetah Piss is a carophyllene-heavy hybrid that is actually a blend of many strains: Lemonade, Gelato 42, and London Poundcake 97. This concoction produced a sweet, funky, slightly sour skunk that comes with a tangy aftertaste.
Medellin
Medellin was created by the breeders at Lemonade. It’s an indica-dominant hybrid named after the famous capital of Columbia. The South American treat is a cross of the popular Wedding Cake and legendary Chemdog. Expect to smell sweet earth, pungent fuel, and lemons when you pop this blue Cookies bag, and expect to get comfy.
