The Utah Department of Agriculture and Food (UDAF) recently identified several additional active ingredients in medical cannabis products. They are synthetic or derivative ingredients that may be unintentionally created during the manufacturing process. Products containing these synthetic or derivative ingredients have long been sold and consumed in legal cannabis markets in Utah and other states.
If a medical cannabis product contains a synthetic or derivative ingredient, the label will include the following statement: “This product contains a derivative and/or synthetic cannabinoid.”
The Utah Department of Health and Human Services encourages residents to notice when a particular product contains a synthetic or derivative ingredient. The health effects of some synthetic or derivative ingredients have not been researched extensively and are not well understood.
State officials still encourage you to talk with your physician and consult with your pharmacist before using any medical cannabis product to discuss potential risks.
This information was collected from a press-release provided by the Utah Department of Health and Human Services. Salt Baked City staff is currently digging deeper into this story. Please stay tuned for a full report on synthetic cannabinoids in Utah coming soon.
